Is it possible to convert an Application into add-on? What are the changes I need to get it working? Guidance in light of FlowUI will be much appreciated.

Studio doesn’t support composite projects with FlowUI yet.
Will be implemented in Composite projects with FlowUI subprojects : JST-3353.

I suggest you to play with a fresh FlowUI application and my add-on project mentioned above. Publish it to your local Maven repo and include in the application.
