I am using jmix 2.6 and found that the menu is automatically hidden when using Chrome, but not Safari. I am attaching pictures. Anyone know how to solve this and make it consistently be always open across browser? First pic is Safari, second is Chrome

I can’t reproduce your problem. On the current Jmix 2.6 project, the menu display in Chrome and Safari browsers is identical:
Also note that the responsive layout of the vaadin components adapts to the current size of the application window or the screen of the device on which it is displayed.
As far as I can see, the displayed chrome window has a smaller height than the safari application window. This may affect the hidding of the menu.
